Drink What is Good for You!

Amy Zavatto of Toque wrote about drinks that claim to be good for you, and the liqueurs that have a 500 year long history of actually assisting digestion.  She even tried a new one, The Bitter Truth E*X*R.

“In very non-technical terms, I find it pretty yummy. It was luscious on my tongue and tasting mildly of dark chocolate, grapefruit zest, sassafras, sage, and pine. Really. All of that.”

From Brian Miller at NYC’s Death & Company:

Jane Russell

  • 1 1/2 oz Russell’s Reserve Rye
  • 1/2 oz Rittenhouse Rye (bonded)
  • 1/4 oz Carpano Antica Sweet Vermouth
  • 1/4 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/4 oz Benedictine
  • 1 dash Chocolate Bitters

Stir & strain into a coupe glass and garnish with an orange twist.

White Whiskey Manhattan

White Whiskey Manhattan

50ml (1 1/2 oz) Death Door White Whiskey

15 ml (1/2 oz) Dolin Blanc Vermouth

15 ml (1/2 oz) Benedictine Liqueur

6 drops The Bitter Truth Orange Bitters

Add all ingredients to an ice-filled bar glass. Stir gently, to blend

ingredients and chill. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Top with  dash

of seasonal eau de vie for additional aromatics.
