A SIP OF THE ELIXIER HELPS THE CHRISTMAS LUNCH GO DOWN!

Forget all of those same old after dinner drinks, try something unforgettable this Christmas, The Bitter Truth ELIXIER is a digestif unrivalled, based on recipes from yesteryear but with a definite taste of now.

Since the middle ages herbal liqueurs have been associated with aiding digestion after a large meal. The church was the main source of potions, with some French and Italian herbal liqueurs from this era still around today. It was thought that alcohol was a good carrier for the medicinal benefits of herbs and spices and that drinking a digestive liqueur helped to settle the stomach and even refresh the breath after a meal. Out of this practice several modern forms of alcohol consumption as we know them have evolved, and in the Alpine regions of Europe the digestive bitters were born.  They are usually dark in colour, as their taste comes from herbs and spices being marinated into grain based alcohols.

ELIXIER merges the best from the past and the present to create a new and distinctive digestive liqueur. The roots of the success of this liqueur are in the botanicals used to create the flavour and colour, with ingredients such as mint, rhubarb, gentian, lemon… Read more

Drink What is Good for You!

Amy Zavatto of Toque wrote about drinks that claim to be good for you, and the liqueurs that have a 500 year long history of actually assisting digestion.  She even tried a new one, The Bitter Truth E*X*R.

“In very non-technical terms, I find it pretty yummy. It was luscious on my tongue and tasting mildly of dark chocolate, grapefruit zest, sassafras, sage, and pine. Really. All of that.”

The Bitter Truth Elixier awarded Best in Class at IWSC International Wine and Spirits Challenge

Another great award for The Bitter Truth!

Already voted “Exellent, highly recommended” earlier this year at Paul Pacults Ultimate Spirits Challenge in New York City, we just recieved word that we rocked the bitters category and won the BEST IN CLASS award at this years IWSC International Wine and Spirits Challenge with The Bitter Truth Elixier, known stateside as E**X**R.

Tasting Notes by IWSC Judges:

Very dark with green tinged rim. Complex nose with combination of anise, gentian and wide herbal range. Hints of clove, ginger and liquorice.

Rich and full in the mouth with sweet, syrupy flow. Initially soothing until you register the chilli content which sets up a burning sensation the lifts all the bitter, sweet characters. The chilli burn stays forever !
